Being a new Marine wife when my husband deployed to Iraq last January, I decided I needed to set out on a quest to find other ladies going through what I was going through. In June of ‘09 I met Daphne. My husband had been gone for about five months, and her husband had also recently deployed - mine to Iraq, hers to Afghanistan. She and I became friends VERY quickly, and we were able to support each other through the roller coaster of emotions that a deployment will inevitably put you on. Several months ago I declared I would be there for her homecoming to be her photographer. Homecomings are very special and emotional events to photograph. You’ve probably seen photos of a military homecoming before. What I love about them, really, is how the couple holds on to each other as if letting go would mean they’d be separated by thousands of miles again in an instant. I’m already a pretty sappy person (hey, I’m a wedding photographer…it’s in my nature!), but watching someone I’m close to enjoy such a happy moment made it difficult for me not to get teary-eyed. Luckily I maintained my composure and captured several wonderful photos of their “first embrace” after a year of separation. Congratulations Daphne, and welcome home Matt!
Here are just a few of my favorites.

Havelock T-Ball 2010 Opening Ceremonies
Posted on March 22, 2010
My youngest sister, Sophia, just entered her last year of t-ball. She is 7 and will be too old to play next year. Over the last few years our family has become VERY involved in t-ball! This year Victor and I are proud to be sponsoring our OWN team, the Cynthia Rose Photography Shutterbugs! We’re also very excited to be the league photographers this year. We were asked to take a “league photo” at Opening Ceremonies this past Saturday. It was a gorgeous day, but VERY bright! I do love this shot, though, because of the rainbow effect the uniforms give off!

My elementary school principal, Mr. Williams (Gurganus Elementary School), threw out the first pitch! And Treyvon Norris was the catcher. :)

And my sister got to be one of the flag-holders during the singing of the National Anthem!

Play ball!!!
